The Berkshire Institute for Lifetime Learning (B.I.L.L.) c/o BCC, 1350 West St., 499-4660, Ext. 456 or 496. B.I.L.L. is designed for people who enjoy taking challenging and informative adult level courses in an academic atmosphere. There are spring, fall and winter semesters. Classes are held during the day on the campuses of Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, Williams College and the Clark Museum in Williamstown, and Simon's Rock in Great Barrington. Winter classes are held at the Berkshire South Regional Community Center in Great Barrington. Special events include trips to museums,theaters, historic sites, community programs of special interest, and social events. Faculty consists of current and retired faculty of BCC, Williams College and Simons Rock College, as well as community residents and B.I.L.L. members with special expertise. Free course catalogues are available by calling the above number. Education Support Groups The Harvest Resources Homeschool Support Group 499-6122. The group offers general homeschool information, field trips, a lending library and curriculum guidance. Annual homeschool testing and evaluation available. Members of MASS H.O.P.E. Contact: Marriann Dennis. Literacy Volunteers of Berkshire County 499-9487. Private, non-profit organization providing free, confidential and individualized tutoring in basic reading and English as a second language (ESL) to adults and out-of-school youths over age 16. LVBC tutoring is one-on-one instruction from a trained and qualified volunteer tutor. Adults can study at their own pace using materials of importance or of interest to them. Located at the Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield, LVBC conducts tutor training and maintains an office and lending library of materials. It serves central Berkshire County and neighboring towns. |
