LIFE IS SHORT, MOW COMFORTABLY

To help keep yard maintenance to a minimum and to make it as pleasurable as possible, look for equipment that makes the job easier and more comfortable. A number of companies have incorporated user-friendly designs into their products to complement the changing lifestyles of today's homeowner. As an example, some new mowers are designed to be easier on users' backs, conform to their hands, and fit the human body. Some walk-behind and riding mowers are equipped with adjustable handles and intuitive operator interfaces that help take the aches and pains out of mowing.

If you want a walk-behind mower for your lawn, look for a machine that is adjustable to fit you. A quality mower will allow you to properly adjust the handle to the natural height of your arms, while others will leave you compensating by slouching or lifting your shoulders. Some models are equipped with handles that adjust with the simple turn of an easy-to-reach knob -- no wrenches or screws required. Also watch for mowers that are the lightest in their class, as they require the least amount of effort when moving around your yard, providing better control and enhanced maneuverability.

Additionally, for many people, garage space is at a premium. To save room, select a mower with an easy-fold handle that makes it store compactly.

Alternatively, riding mowers with zero-radius turning (often referred to as a "Z") capabilities are becoming more and more popular. In many cases, they can cut your mowing time by up to half. When selecting a riding or zero radius turn mower, look for models with easy-to-use controls and uncomplicated user interfaces. In addition, padded adjustable seats with high backs and arm rests are a good choice. Some of these models are even equipped with an easy-to-view fuel gauge, taking the guesswork out of fuel time. Another trend in zero radius turn mowers are "friendly" and “approachable” designs inspired by automobiles. Not only do they look great in the garage, but they're fun to use. Most dealers offer test drives so you can experience the performance of a “Z” for yourself.
