Agricultural Fair to celebrate 30th year

The Annual Adams Agricultural Fair takes place over three days every summer, and will celebrate its 30th year of doing so in 2004. Every day brings something new, from truck pulls to magic shows to local band performances.

The fair is a perfect family destination. It is located at Bowe Field on Old Columbia Street (off Howland Ave / Route 8), and free parking is provided on the grounds. Adult admission is $5.00; children between the ages of 6-12 can get a ticket for $1.00. Adults may also purchase a three-day pass for $10.00.

The festivities kick off on Friday night with the Cruise-In. Classic vehicles, custom vehicles, street rods and motorcycles will make their appearance at the fair. The Cruise-In is followed by a truck pull - for the more traditional, there is an antique tractor pull the next morning.

Animal lovers also have several reasons to go to the annual fair. There are horsemanship and sheepdog demonstrations throughout the weekend, as well as a horse and pony pull. Of course, there are also the animal competitions…animals from rabbits to cattle to goats are judged each day. Besides the judged competitions, there are also opportunities to view llamas, miniature donkeys and heritage turkeys.

There is also a petting zoo for the younger animal enthusiasts. (And those who are young at heart!) Pony and carriage rides are available all day Saturday - for the more adventurous, there are also carnival rides.

Many local musicians also perform at the fair. The genres range from 60s - 90s tunes covered by Phil 'N The Blanks to Heartsong Gospel to country to organ music.

The fair truly has something for everyone. Storytellers, games, a climbing wall, the crowning of the Aggie Fair Prince and Princess…the list goes on. Every generation will find something of interest at the Adams Agricultural Fair - so bring the whole family!

Adams Summer Activities

Summer park activities in Adams are coordinated by the parks department and by residents. A series of concerts by local musicians representing a variety of music has been staged in the gazebo at the town center, with support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and spearheaded by resident Nancy Garton.

For youth recreation, an Adams Parks Department program (743-8380) is supervised by Dave Nuvallie. The program is designed to provide a safe, fun, active and social alternative to the young people of Adams. It is free and open to any resident, ages 6-13, provided they pre-register. Park operations usually begin one week after school is out in late June. Typical locations are Renfrew Field and Russell Field. The program usually runs Monday-Friday from late June into mid-August. The following activities are offered:

Can Races
Cultural Days
Baseball/Softball
Olympic Days
Baseball Tournaments
Other theme days
Two field trips
Tie-dying
Hikes
Soccer
Board games
