Music, athletics, writing add to strong academics at Hoosac Valley High School Four schools make up the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District. Cheshire Elementary School (pre-K through 6), with 586 students, and C.T. Plunkett Elementary School in Adams (K-5 and also 586 students), both send graduates to the Adams Memorial Middle School (enrollment 439, grades 6-8). The two towns together also operate Hoosac Valley High School in Adams. 531 students make up grades 9-12 with 45 faculty members. In July 2001, a new principal, Deborah Carter, joined Hoosac Valley. Aside from a strong academic program, Hoosac Valley's sports teams are also top in the area. Their ski team, coached by former state champion Greta Facchetti, has won the state championship and the boys' varsity basketball team became Western Mass Champions. Student Tom Oxton represented Hoosac Valley at the 2003 Division III State Wrestling Championship, coming in fourth. Music is also a strong point, with over 75 students participating in the 2003 chorus production of "Les Miserables". The school's student-run newspaper, "The Eye of the Hurricane" and the literary magazine, "The Gallery" also win statewide awards. C.T. Plunkett Elementary School 743-0846 Located on Commercial Street; was recently renovated to house students from Pre-K through fifth grade. St. Stanislaus Kostka School 743-1091 A Catholic Elementary school accommodating just under two hundred students from kindergarten through eighth grade and close to fifty Pre-K students. Adams Memorial Middle School 743-0554 Located on Columbia Street, accommodates sixth through eighth graders from Adams and seventh and eighth graders from Cheshire. Hoosac Valley High School 743-5200 Located on Savoy Road, provides education from ninth through twelfth grade. The district places more than sixty percent of its graduates in some form of higher education. The Northern Berkshire Vocational School District 663-5383 Serves students from area towns that jointly aid in the support of C.H. McCann Technical High School. Courses of study include automotive, business, electricity, machine technology, culinary arts, metal fabrication and plant maintenance. |
