Blazing trails for young skiers

Town: Hancock

Age: 66

Birth date: June 17, 1936

Birthplace: Brooklyn, N.Y.

Occupation: Retired math teacher (New York City); cross country ski coach

How I would describe myself: Considerate, generous, honest and kind -- wow!

Current volunteerism, board memberships, etc.: Administrator of area road races, volunteer work at the Pittsfield Citizenship and Resettlement Program, help at the local high school JCL program, guardian to a 93-year-old “friend,” athletic coach, etc.

Family: Wife, Lola, a retired Latin teacher (Mount Greylock Regional High School); daughters, Heather Morffew and Hilary Greene Rogers; son, Hunter Greene

Education: BS from Brooklyn College; MA from New York University

Personal hero/role model: Will Rogers -- get all the laughs you can!

Why is this person a hero/role model to you? He overcame adversities, his philosophy about life. He was simple but right on the money!

Personal achievement(s) of which you are most proud: Thirteen years coaching cross country skiing with several state championships; being a coach, math teacher and dean at a New York City high school; and most importantly, my family -- three great children.

Personal quote/trademark expression: “If it’s not fatal, it’s no big deal.”

The best advice you can give someone: 1.) “Carpe Diem” -- seize the day at 110 percent. 2.) Win with humility, lose with grace and do both with dignity. 3.) It’s nice to be important but even more important to be nice.
